THE COMMERCIAL JUGGERNAUT ROLLS ON…

The cards have been recycled,

The twinkling lights snuffed out.

The yuletide songs now stifled,

From extravagance, we are spent.

Before the turkey has gone cold,

The juggernaut is re-stocked.

We have to chase that pot of gold,

Our minds they are brain-washed..

Crowds in search of bargains,

Stampede their way to sales.

Or to the net, we’re drawn again,

Our credit-cards to assail.

Images of far flung places,

Splashed upon our screens.

The lure of sunny climes will raise,

That envious shade of green.

The result of our excesses,

Is now gathered round our middle.

Into those sparkly, party dresses,

We can no longer wriggle.

So we must get fit, join a gym

Make a New Year resolution.

To get a body, honed and slim,

We are hounded by solutions.

Don’t miss your New Year’s horoscope,

Take a glimpse into the future.

Will you be filled with false hope?

Or warned against disaster!

And so the juggernaut rolls on,

Valentine is round the corner.

In this game, we are but pawns,

Why do we tolerate this torture?
