Proximity Is....
Keep a distance,
don’t come to close,
I’ve got your own good
in mind.
Proximity is....
toxic!
Invisible barrier,
take heed of the line,
don’t come to close to me
and you will
be fine.
Proximity is....
toxic!
Is it some aura,
some waft of evil,
that brings out
the danger,
increases your
risk?
Proximity is....
toxic!
My presence,
it’s poison,
and the words
that I say.
Take heed of my warning,
and just stay away.
Close proximity
to me
is virulently
toxic!

Excellent, but a sad way to view yourself
It's sad when people think this about themselves. Pushing people away and keeping them away isn't doing anyone any favours, especially when such a sweet, considerate person such as yourself. If someone's making you feel unwanted or toxic, then they are the one who is feeling isolated and unwanted.
Sometimes, when people push us away, their real desire is to pull us in. It can be difficult to articulate how we feel, and even harder to share our feelings - the easiest reaction is an angry reaction; push others away to manage our pain and release some of it. But so often, a hostile act is a mask for a desire to be loved.
January 28th is National Hug Day. A multitude of good hugs may just be what the doctor ordered to help you realize how non-toxic you are, Hully. Also, a hug, just like laughter, is the best medicine when feeling down. But who says you need to wait for the end of the month to get your hug on? :)
Well Done Hull, I can really understand this...Tom...
I don't know you, Ms. Hullabaloo but I know enough to say you are far from toxic. You are a valued member of the booksie platform. Nicely done.
Interesting poem, Hully. I have often been described as aloof, unapproachable. It is definitely not intentional, but I think I'm basically scared the real me might be rumbled, so I put on a sort of mask. I don't like people invading my space, and am not a touchy, feely person. So I guess what I'm trying to say is... I GET THIS! Great stuff!
Yeah, I prefer to keep my distance, too, Sue. What inspired this was somehow things being twisted in a way that makes me to blame either by action or omission. The claims that I poison everything.....but I think your interpretation is just as valid and just as true!
Thanks so much for reading, Sue, and for that comment!
