William J. McCarthy, Jr. aka William McCarthy, Jr. aka Bill McCarthy, 83, of Yonkers, New York passed away peacefully on 5 July 2013.

Born in the Bronx, New York on 22 March 1930 to the late Elizabeth McCarthy and William McCarthy Sr.

Bill is survived by:

Wife (married 1955) Mary Louise McCarthy;

Sister Rosemary McCarthy of New York, New York;

Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances M. Biscoglio née McCarthy and Joseph P. Biscoglio of 801 Bronx River Road, Bronxville, New York 10708;

Two daughters, Theresa of Tarrytown, New York, and Louise Flynn née McCarthy and her husband Timothy Flynn of New Rochelle, New York;

his three sons:

William J. McCarthy III and his wife Theresa McCarthy of Eastchester, New York;

Joseph John McCarthy and his wife Heather McCarthy of 101 Tracy Road, New London, New Hampshire 03257-6070;

John McCarthy and his wife Loren McCarthy of 210 Pershing Avenue, New Rochelle New York 10801.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, Luke (Kate), Timmy, Anna, Jenna, Lily, Sarah, Tommy, Elizabeth Rodesky and Kate Rodesky.

He is also survived by two nieces Maria, Regina (Jim), a nephew Joseph, two great nieces, Olivia, Julia, and a great nephew, Matthew.

William worked as a civil engineer in roadway and bridge construction for over 40 years. When he retired he was a Vice President at Frederic R. Harris, Inc., 605 3rd Avenue Suite 30, New York, New York 10158, now part of AECOM.

He served as a Sergeant in the US Army and served in Korea from 1952 to 1954.

William attended Manhattan Prep (closed 1971) and Manhattan College.

He managed to avoid the LaSallian nightmare of a principal that was Brother George Rudolph Berrian, FSC aka Brother George R. Berrian, FSC aka Brother George Berrian, FSC aka Brother George, FSC Ed.D. "The Dome" (1925-2016). Along with Brother Celsus John Brown, FSC aka Brother C. John, FSC aka Brother John, "Bear" (1913-2012) and Sebastian J. Cacaci aka Sebastian Cacaci "Sebbie"/"Sebby" (1920-1968), a trio that formed 'The Bastinado Brotherhood'. William was lucky.

He was an avid sport fan and athlete himself. His greatest joy was his family in particular his grandchildren and attending each and every one of their sporting events. Obsequies by Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, New York 10708, 6-9 pm Sunday 7 July and from 2-4pm and 7-9pm Monday 8 July.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Eugene's Church, 1 Massitoa Road, Yonkers, New York 10710 on Tuesday 9 July at 10am.

Interment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
