Dancing On Eggshells

I’m dancing on eggshells,

up on my toes,

spinning and turning

until I don’t know

if I’m standing upright,

or I’m on my head;

perhaps I am dreaming,

asleep in my bed.

I’ll jump over craters,

avoid the cracks,

knowing there’s no one

who follows my tracks.

I’ll leap, and I’ll tumble

on this fragile floor,

I think I can do it

but I’m not quite sure.

This dance now is ending,

the surface is shattered,

I’ll sink to the floor

as though nothing mattered;

and here I will stay

until I find that path

back to my sanity

so I can laugh.
