The Handler

You’ve taken control,

stepped in to power,

to rule with an iron fist,

make people cower.

You’re giving out orders,

they will be obeyed;

no need for thinking,

opinions decayed.

But something is nagging,

I want to be free.

Leave me alone,

to let me be me.

You’re ruling by force,

dissolving all feeling;

compassion outdated,

and gone through the ceiling.

Puppets awaiting to

act to your will;

your programmed demands

to faithfully fill.

But memory’s breaking,

I want to be free;

leave me alone,

and let me be me.

Oppression you wield,

won’t tolerate blunder;

entranced and impassive

we don’t even wonder;

unswerving to execute,

nothing else heard

apart from your instructions,

your manipulative word.

But there’s a change coming,

a transformation,

that might see this ruling power

in disintegration.

My mind is malfunctioning,

part agitation,

those orders of yours being

lost in translation.

I’ll cling to these feelings,

shut out your voice

and try to convince myself

I have a choice.

Your control is failing,

I’m breaking free,

finding the person

that once was me.

No longer will I just

accept what you say,

won’t do what I’m told

and will no more obey.
