A Moment To Reflect

Any minute now we will be heading on out there, ready to take you in to battle. To play our part too, as our hooves can prove effective weapons when we rear up.

You place the saddle quite gently on my back, fasten the straps tightly, securely. I think of shuffling my feet, just to let you know that I am aware of exactly what is going on.

There are more than a hundred of us. We will all be trotting out, proud and fearless, you warriors carried to war on our backs. Our heads will be held high as we obediently follow the instructions of you, our masters, to go in to what is in no way our fight.

We’ll trot, canter, and at the last moment gallop forward into the fray. Swords will slash, shields will clash, axes may well fly in our direction. The smell of fear, of blood, will assault our nostrils. The cries of pain, both human and equine will echo in our ears.

But like all good horses we will not pause, but will charge in to battle at your will with no hesitation. Please, allow us just one thing – a moment to reflect.
