Flies Eye View

I’m watching it from across the room,

this fly upon my wall,

further, further, higher now,

I watch that insect crawl.

I wonder, maybe if I could,

follow in it’s trail;

worth an attempt I’m guessing

for the worst is that I fail.

I walk on over to that wall,

tense with trepidation,

place one foot on it, then there’s two

a disturbing sensation.

I feel like I am lying down,

but floating in the air

with chains upon my own two feet

that keep me hanging there.

One step upwards then another,

soon I’m pretty high;

it’s moved now to the ceiling

I realise with a sigh.

So up I go and turn things round,

turn things on their head,

my topsy-turvy point of view

now fills me with some dread.

The blood it rushes wrongly,

and sets my mind to spinning,

I’ve followed it successfully

but there’s no way I’m winning.

Sickened now, I’ll let it go,

plunge down to the floor,

this flies eye view of everything

has just confused me more.

I watch it now approach a web,

sticky strands, they hold it tight,

no matter how it struggles now

it won’t be taking flight.

It’s walked on in, straight to a trap,

nothing else to do but cower

and wait for that paralysis

it’s captor will soon devour.

This flies eye view has made a change,

for I can clearly see

there’s really not much difference

between itself and me.
