Faker

Am I a faker?

I really don’t know,

but some people, sure,

they do tell me so.

I’ll put on the mask,

paint on a smile,

my turmoil keep hidden

all of the while.

Won’t meet your eyes,

avoiding that gaze

that might give a glimpse of

my own mental maze.

The hand that I hold up,

pretending to wave

when really I’m drowning

and cannot be saved.

I won’t let you see it,

the mess or the pain;

so if I am faking

I’ll do it again.

You might think you can fix it,

but there is no mending

of situations that

have no way of ending.

Advice that is given

by those that are clueless,

worth next to nothing,

essentially useless.

So call me a faker,

I’m doing my best

to make my own way

and to hell with the rest.
