A lesson that needs to be learned.

United We Stand

Do you remember what they used to say,

not so very long ago was that day

when working together was seen as good,

representing both sides as government should.

But then came the blinkers, the deaf ears,

along with extreme views, stoking up fears.

What happened to ‘united’, it’s been compromised

and I wish I could say that I’m really surprised.

No ‘give and take’, for you know what’s best,

pursue your ideas and blank all the rest.

Don’t listen to reason, refuse to debate

for not getting your way, well, that’s something you hate.

A lesson worth learning is the effect of division,

that sets a country on a course of collision;

perhaps you should remember that rousing call;

United we stand and divided we fall.’

I wish that wasn't the case but we've talked about that and why it's like that in my class AP U.S. politics and government. I wish we could once more stand united.

Trying to teach brainless children anything is an act in futility, especially when their attention is to their tablets where they're playing online poker or solitare. When the corporations run things, what do the senators care if they have to go to work in the morning? They're still getting paid.
I miss the days of real government when there was some semblance of integrity in the people who took care of our countries. Nowadays, integrity and dignity are buried under piles of cash.
A well written poem with a message that strikes true. If only they could understand how stupid and immature they are. They need to be thrown in a playpen until they stop their whining and start behaving!
At least people are standing relatively united. We are not completely divided yet, and that is where real change is going to come from in any country.

Yeah, I think people in government tend to view themselves as 'above the people', instead of 'representatives of the people'. They certainly seem to put the interests of themselves and of others in powerful positions above all of us.....mere people.
Petty behavior among the so-called leaders is by no means limited to one country either. Perhaps there is something about power that induces childishness.
Anyway, thanks for reading, Jeff.
