Do cars in movies drive you crazy like they do me?

When I watch movies, I get distracted by things about cars.  In the first Transformer movie, leading actor, Shia Labeauf’s car stalls, and Megan Fox tells her costar, that she has helped her dad fix cars all her life and tells him to pop the hood.  She looks under the hood, but neither checks if they have gas to the carburetor (old car), or if they have spark.  She finally just walks away from the stalled car.  That’s it?  She just looked under the hood?  How is that going to fix anything?

In Hidden Figures, one of the leading actresses drives a 1957 Chevy in 1957, and one of the other costars calls it a piece of junk.  I don’t think so.  Also, when it is stalled along the side of the road, the hotshot mechanic and owner of the car said the starter's bad.  A bad starter wouldn’t stall the car.  Then she shorts something with a spark and the car starts.  It could have been the solenoid, but if the starter is bad like she said, it still wouldn’t have turned over.  If an automatic, only a push of about thirty miles per hour, or if a stick shift, a rolling start, and popping the clutch to get it started.  She then drives with the car in park if an automatic or in second gear both times in driving scenes.  Later even though she has a late model car, she takes the bus to the library with her two sons.  Also, the car was too shiny to be considered a hunk of junk.  If she was truly a mechanic would she leave the hubcap off?  (Maybe, I’ll give them that one.)
