It was unexpected. Something that normally wouldn’t have happened, with my being too guarded and his devouring of those who get too close for his comfort. I grew to care for someone I don’t know and mentally crave to understand. And it’s strange; because like the rumble of thunder before a storm mixed with the calm of the ocean under a post storm gray sky you can hear an intensity in that voice like no other. It isn’t fear instilling nor is it soothing but it’s strangely familiar. There’s pain. More pain than joy. There’s care covered by lessons learned and lessons learned covered by lessons he feels he must teach. His head is strong but his positioning is stronger and there is no way to talk up to him nor a way to talk down to him; there is only debate backed by an open mind and, somewhere incredibly deep under that hard and cold exterior, an open heart. A heart that I have somehow managed to catch a glimpse into. And as I stare into the open crack with perplexity, I see magnificent crimsons lined with vivid ambers and blinding yellows that whip and crack like the flames of a powerful fire; a fire he suppresses because that suppression makes him feel in control
