Arms

Who’s arms are more powerful?

Not talking here of muscle,

but the weapons we are gathering

with some kind of hustle.

Who can get the biggest range,

amass the biggest pile,

not needing quite so many troops,

no more rank and file.

Technological advancement,

who has the better bomb

is sure to be the victor

when World War 3, it comes along.

So keep those weapons building,

you know it is a race,

who goes to press that button first

is sure to win first place!

This was prompted by a message I received from the Doomsday Clock people about D.T.'s speech, Mike! Like you and me, they were not too impressed. Thanks for reading and commenting.

They'll win a participant ribbon, but I wouldn't bank on them seeing a trophy, unless that trophy is nuclear fallout. It's coming up on thirty years since the Cold War ended, yet the world's current "leaders" don't seem to care about avoiding such a costly disaster anymore; they're more intent on actualizing one and outdoing the expectations.
I really hope more women become leaders in the near future. Hopefully that will abate these disastrous "dick" measuring contests. I say "dick" because they'd need one to be measured in the first place, and a nuclear arsenal is a poor substitute. It wouldn't eliminate tensions between countries and it wouldn't change how they conduct business, but I think women have more of a mind towards peaceful conflict resolution than men. The problem, ultimately, is egos and big business - everyone in a high position of power has an ego and almost every politician these days has been bought off by a corporation.

Isn't that the truth. Who knows exactly who holds all the power? This was inspired by a message from the Doomsday Clock people regarding Donald Trumps speech; they did not seem to get much reassurance from it at all. But that is by no means to say that he is the only person who poses a threat of nuclear war...there are a good few others who could decide to go 'first'.
Thanks so much for reading, Jeff.

Nicely penned, Hully. Won the race, but also destroyed it. Scary!

Thanks, Sue. If only they could see that there will only be losers and no winner at all.

A pretty straight-forward poem, Hully. Well done.
