No More Than A Snack

Why did she have to go out, leaving me here with a hole in my stomach the size of the moon? I’ve given her a while but there’s still no sign of her. It wouldn’t be so bad if the refrigerator was not packed full of so much delicious stuff; I know it’s for her party tonight but it keeps on calling to me.

Bailey’s hungry too. He keeps looking at me with those begging eyes, wagging his tail, lifting his paw.

I open the door, take a look. Big mistake, for now my stomach is growling loud enough to bring the house down.

We’ll just take a couple of things, one of this and one of that. She won’t even notice that they’ve gone. I look at Bailey. “Shall we?”

The paw is a good enough answer.

Of course, my mobile rings while I’m eating. Swallow quickly. I can’t miss this call, I’ve been waiting for ages.

Was it my fault I left the refrigerator door open? Was it my fault that Bailey took advantage and decided to scoff the lot?

Mom thinks so. “How could you, Evan. Take Bailey and the two of you.....Get out of my sight!”
