I have always felt the dark grip. You had left many times, an effect caused by unheard words not spoken. The sun which lit the shadow would recede in your absence. I would wait, sat where we always met. I knew you would return.

I would fall back onto the itchy grass. The stars would shine, far off into the distance, struggling to be seen. My eyelids would double in weight as I watched the clouds pass in front of the reflecting moon. If I drifted across the clouds, would you forgive me?

I waited for you where we always met. Under the tree, watching the spiders crawl upon the graves. Webs were stolen by arrowless hunters as I remain motionless upon the hill. Once I've waited long enough, and proved I love you, you will return.

I exited the store spinning the top off the bubbling green bottle, I considered if I had made a mistake. Had I been meant to come to find you instead? I walked, kicking the rocks from the dirt, down the path towards the populated section of town. You would have been waiting for me if you had not come.

I continued through the path; the journey was several days as I was without transportation, unlike you. Their grip continued, digging deeper, soon it would break my skin and I would run red. I would inhale breaths and retained the air until the fog cleared before releasing.

I almost broke a smile, before darting towards you as fast as I could. Disappointment washed over my face as drops from the sky splash my face.I could see your furniture removed. The for-sale sign stuck in the ground had been rubbed away.

The dark hands now encased my body, my eyes could no longer see beyond their shadow. The spiders would soon turn to me as I drift away here under the fallen leaves. I remain as I have no other way of living. This hill has become my world, your eyes have become my dream.

A very Gothic feel to this story. Such sadness and despair. An excellent flash story!
