Just One

Look at them! So many, and all looking perfect.

See how her face lights up when he hands them to her. She smiles much wider than I have seen for a long time. These flowers must mean something special. And then they are in each other’s arms, clearly in love with each other.

The flowers are left for a moment, unnoticed. Red roses that smell so sweet. It is then that I have an idea. Could I do it? Would they notice? And if they did, would they really mind? After all, it’s for a good cause.

I had considered giving up my tastiest bone but somehow I get the impression she’d not be too pleased. Gigi is not really a ‘bone’ kind of dog. One of these would be much more suitable.

They are still wrapped up, looking the other way. It is now or never.

I step forward, reach up and carefully pluck one stem from the bouquet. Luckily I learned how to open the door and can let myself out, make my own way to Gigi’s garden.

Will she be there? Not so much of an outdoor dog as I am. But yes!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Gigi!
