Laura McKnight; longed for justice! And she was ready to fulfill this wish at every cost and fearlessly.

Approximately eight months ago, Laura fell victim to sexual assault in the hands of a despicable man named Sam Scott.

Laura lived alone in a small apartment in the metropolitan area of Chicago, Illinois. One night, her best friend since college had invited her out for a Girls’ night out on a Thursday evening.

As Laura descended to her building’s parking lot garage, she walked to her vehicle feeling slightly uneased and watched!

Before she even had time to react, Laura McKnight was savagely attacked by Sam Scott, who overpowered her and dragged her to the isolated stairwells and proceeded to violently rape her.

Laura fought and fought to no avail. She had defensive wounds all over her hands and she managed to rip her assailant’s pantyhose mask off and she made sure that in the middle of her brutal attack; to burn the image of his face so deeply into her mind. Sam Scott panicked after he was finished. He pointed a pistol to the already badly injured Laura but was unable to pull the trigger.

“If you ever go to the police about this, I swear I will come back to finish the job”, he threatened. He took her handbag along with her wallet inside containing her driver’s license.

“Now I know your name and where you live”, he said before he took off and left Laura traumatized and unable to call for help without her cell phone. Laura had to drag herself to the elevator and finally call for help.

Despite her fear and the subsequent Post Traumatic Stress disorder she developed, Laura didn’t think twice before going to the police. Upon doing so, Laura was examined with a rape kit for hours. The process was a painful and tedious one. She was also now afraid for her health, since her rapist did not wear any type of protection.

Laura McKnight’s attacker was soon apprehended, and his case would go to trial. However, Sam Scott, posted bail and skipped town. He has eluded police for the last six months.

Laura has been living with her older brother and his wife and children at his home for months now. Her brother feels responsible for letting this happen to his younger sister. Before their mother passed away, he promised to look after his sister and Aiden McKnight feels as if he has failed. For the past eight months since this has happened to his sister; Aiden is angry. And while Laura seeks justice, he seeks revenge.

Unbeknownst to Laura, Aiden had hired a private detective since Sam Scott ran away and finally, this private detective had the news Aiden McKnight had been waiting for, for months.

The detective gave Aiden the location where Sam Scott was hiding out with the condition that he alerted the police. To which Aiden assured he’d do and offered him more cash.

In a rundown and crummy apartment in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago, Sam Scott hid like a coward until Aiden broke into his hideaway and held him at gunpoint.

Upon the initial shock, Sam Scott shouted obscenities to Mr. McKnight which only fueled Aiden’s anger toward him.

He called his sister and without any other information asked her to meet him at this apartment. She agreed to, afraid that her brother was in trouble.

“Aiden, what are you doing?” Laura gasped after being let into the apartment.

“I found him, Laurie, I found him for you. And I am going to kill this son of a bitch for what he has put you through”, Aiden tells her. Laura sees the fury and the rage inside her brother’s eyes.

“Aiden, this isn’t the way to do it. He’s already supposed to go to trial, you must let him pay for what he’s done. We must call the police”, she explains.

“No! No, no, no! dammit. I saw what you looked like. I witnessed everything you went through after this animal attacked you. He has to pay for what he did to you”, he insists while pointing the gun at Sam Scott.
“Please don’t shoot me, I’m sorry. I have a problem, I know”, he begs like all cowards do in the end.

“Shut up! Did you have any mercy for my sister that night? You ruined her life. You ruined all our lives, you don’t deserve to live”, Aiden was getting ready to pull the trigger.

“Aiden please! Don’t do this! This isn’t the justice I want. I want him in a jail cell for the rest of his life. I want him to remember me always. I want to haunt him in his sleep. I want him to remember that he’s there miserable and locked up because of me. If you kill him, it will be too easy for him. He won’t suffer as I have”, Laura stares into her brother’s eyes and after a few seconds and a deep breath, Aiden acquiesces.

“Okay. I want him to pay for all he has done”, Aiden speaks. He takes his cell phone from his back pocket and dials 9-1-1.

Sam Scott was finally brought to trial. And Laura McKnight’s perseverance and bravery, inspired other women to come forth and share their testimony against being victims of Sam Scott, as well.

He was sent away for a very long time. And although the justice system seems to fail women like Laura McKnight; this time her strength to push for the justice she deserved paid off. Laura McKnight can’t be silenced.
