Readers Unite

By Ian D. Mooby

The following exchange can be seen in private messages, quickies and even forum topics all the time.

Writer 1: Hey dude I just posted a new short story/poem/chapter/whatever can you read it and comment?

Writer 2: I’ll read and comment, but you have to read something of mine and leave a comment.

Writer 1: Sure, no problem.

Where does this leave those members that aren’t writers?  It is time for the readers to demand something in return for reading all the stuff they do.  I’m willing to send cookies to any reader that will give me postage and their address.  It is one cookie per comment, but these are home made cookies.  They will be fresh from the oven when I package them.  It may take a day or two for me to get them to the post office, but they will be fresh when packaged.  Also, my baking skills may leave a lot to be desired so projectile vomiting could result from eating anything I bake, just warning you.

Now you might be asking why I would do this since no other writer seems to care about the reader, while I’m not most writers I am Ian D. Mooby damn it and I care.  You readers take the time to read my garbage and I think you deserve something for doing this.  So, the least I could do is ignore you like the other writers, but I am Ian D. Mooby and I care.  I really think it is a fair exchange one read/comment for one cookie as long as the reader pays for the postage, I am not a rich man.

Now I have put this idea out there, other writers will seek to offer you something for your reads and comments, but remember it was Ian D. Mooby that started this.  I will even go one better the five readers who leave me the most comments will have my first published work dedicated to them and if they buy a copy I will personal autograph it.  I don’t plan on doing a lot of autographs, so it could someday be a true collector’s items, probably be worth like $5 or $6 less then what you originally paid for it with my signature on it.

If all that isn’t enough to get you readers to start reading and commenting, then I have one final offer.  I will name my first-born child after the reader that leaves me the most comments.  I do have to find a woman that will have my child, but I’m sure I can find somebody crazy or desperate enough to do that.

So just to cover everything again.  All the readers that send me postage and their address will get a cookie if they leave me a comment on one of my stories.  The five readers that comment the most get my first published work dedicated to them and an autograph if they buy my published work and the top commenter will have my first born named after them.  You can’t really beat this kind of deal so get reading and commenting.
