"The woods was covered in mist. The rustling of leaves and the wisps of the air were like whispers of Death himself which made the people cower in fear just by the atmosphere of the woods. Each
bark and twig of the trees were as black as charcoal, its leaves continuously falling down to the ground and yet, the leaves from the trees would not cease at all.

The villagers called it 'The Cursed Woods'. No one dared to go in the place. No one was curious enough to take journey inside the woods because of the fear that won inside them."

Aren’t You Curious?

The cheering and laughter of the people filled the dark of the night. Blight footsteps were taken by the villagers who volunteered to dance on the platform, enjoying the sound of the music produced by the throbbing of drums, the blowing of flutes, and the strumming of guitars.

The whole village was filled with such a bright light, making it seem like the word 'fade' won't affect the place.

However, the light and the cheerfulness of the people in the village didn't reach the woods nearby.

The woods was covered in mist. The rustling of leaves and the wisps of the air were like whispers of Death himself which made the people cower in fear just by the atmosphere of the woods. Each bark and twig of the trees were as black as charcoal, its leaves continuously falling down to the ground and yet, the leaves from the trees would not cease at all.

The villagers called it 'The Cursed Woods'. No one dared to go in the place. No one was curious enough to take journey inside the woods because of the fear that won inside them.

And because of that…

They won't ever hear the enchanting sound of the nightingale's chirping deep inside the woods.

They won't ever see the traipsing of a white-tailed deer in the meadow deep in the place.

They won't ever feel the breeze of the wind that makes you think that you're covered with clouds, making you float in the air.

And of course, they won't ever notice the beautiful young lady who was sitting in the room at the top of a tower, always watching her surroundings.

The girl wore a plain black dress lined with rich silver threads on the waist and adorned with ceaseless blooms of fresh white roses. Her hair had the color of a beautiful sunset, so long that the tip of it reached her knees. Her luscious black eyes were dark as the night sky. Her beautiful fair skin were covered by the dress she always wore.

No one's beauty can be considered as an equal to hers.

Sitting on a chair, she gazed outside at the window. Her bright eyes scanned the trees of the woods enlightened by the moonlight, searching for the birds that sang a very wonderful melody.

She heard the chirping again but nearer. Suddenly, she saw the bird flew in the air.

She never felt jealousy.

She watched as the bird went farther and farther on the night sky until it was nowhere in her sight.

She unconsciously smiled as she waved the bird farewell.

She never wished for freedom.

She then decided to stand up. Her feet guided her towards a plain circular mirror mounted on a wall.

Words escaped from her lips as she stood in front of the mirror. Suddenly, a monochromatic figures of human appeared and the sound of drums and laughter escaped at the image projected in the mirror.

The people were dancing, wearing a very bright smile as they took each other’s hands to form a circle. Children were running on the streets, wearing their best clothes for playing and attending an occasion.

She sighed in relief as she watched them smile.

In the village, the people there were frightened to go to the woods.

The people there created many dark rumors about the woods so that the youth won’t even dare to go there.

Little did they know that they have a very successful harvest because of this so-called ‘Cursed Woods’.

Little did they know that they could smile freely because they were being protected by the woods.

Little did they know that the girl deep inside the woods was their long-time guardian for hundreds of years.

Of course they didn’t know about that… For they let the fear win their hearts.

And yet…

The girl in the woods was alright with that.

She’s contented that she can watch them have fun.

She’s contented that she could be by their side even if they have no knowledge about it.

Hundreds or even thousands of years, she watched them.

Sitting on a chair, standing in front of the mirror, chanting spells, protecting them.

Oh, how can even she be this contented?

That she didn’t even care that the people she was protecting didn’t acknowledge her?
