A young man saw two of his friends doing some strange things one day and he had to ask them exactly what they were doing. The first man had a stick and he was pushing an envelope along on the ground.

“Hey, what are you doing there? I've never seen anyone do that” the young man said.

His friend looked up at him. “My father says that a lot of brilliant people push the envelope. So that's what I'm doing” he said.

The young man shook his head. “I don't think that's what he means by that. But oh well. Good luck with that” he said and almost laugh to himself. He looked over at his other friend who was standing in a cardboard box and he was looking all around himself.

“Well what are you doing?” the young man asked him. Like the guy pushing the envelope with the stick he had never seen anyone doing that.

“My father says that a lot of brilliant people look outside the box, so that's what I'm doing” he said.

“I think the phrase is 'thinking outside the box' but oh well. Have fun with that” he said and he walked off shaking his head. “Boy, some people” he said silently to himself

There are two morals to this little story.

One : That some people take things way too literal.

Two : Pick your friends wisely so you don't end up hanging around with idiots.
