Carousel

Columbia Mall

one peaceful night

while closing up, laid soft its light

like orange colors of the fall.

Can you recall September's bite?

I do...

You froze, eyes wide, outside the door.

You'd left and entered there before

so many times

but there you stood

and stared so hard I barely could

return your glance.

Behind me, if by happenstance,

a herd of horses made of wood

gave chase.

A million mirrored bulbs burned dim.

The circus played a marching hymn

at lover's pace.

As ponies raced, I drew you in

by moon and music's magic spell

to ride with me on carousel.

Your golden hair had sunlight's smell

with fairest skin, eyes crystal blue.

We stared as lovers often do

then clasping hands, you led me through

a chair and table barricade

pretending to be on parade.

We reached the gate and jumped the rail

then climbed upon the carousel.

The building sounded like a fair

but just we two were standing there

alone

amongst the tethered beasts.

All stores were bare,

all shopping ceased.

Your fingers creased my body where

I found release.

Around we spun

in circles till we came as one

and surged a hundred times at least

till we were done.

Then down we fell,

two lovers

riding
