Red Eye

They’re everywhere! Groups of them, swarming from in front, from behind. All so different but all with those same red eyes.

“Don’t look!” I scream. “Find cover, any cover. Don’t look into their eyes and don’t let them near.”

Those red eyes bore straight the way to your brain, take over your thoughts. It’s instant in it’s onset, takes only minutes to complete. A bite is just as effective at spreading that contagion, it just takes that bit longer to flood all the neurons.

We dive for cover, seeking sanctuary behind the massive bins that line the side-walk. A useless idea, they’re swarming everywhere with they strange unified gait. They are interested in one thing and one thing only – mind control and spreading those lies. Who’s lies? We have ideas but it’s hard to be sure, not without going under and then there is no way back.

A shop, a drug store. We’ll smash our way in, grab us some shades. Will they work? Perhaps offer some protection?

Those red eyes are everywhere. And now you! Why didn’t you stay with me? You are not you, I know that now, but still I cannot run. You are my thought contagion.

You capture the manic vibe, the fear of falling to the red eyes real well. I especially like that last sentence! A nice tie-in to the song, plus a lovely sentiment in its own right. Well done!
