Last Century's House

The gingerbread man

Trudges,

With a monkey's wheel

Too heavy on his spine,

Through the labyrinth of wombs

Of last century's house,

Where the orthopaedic shadows

Shake the death rattle,

At the blond's antique hands,

Her broken needles

Her plastic spoons,

While the nuns polish mirrors

And furniture in the gloom,

And the schoolgirls

In the backyard,

Bleed blood

For the neon moon.
