The Taunting Screen

Gary is starting to become very familiar with this, the phenomena of the taunting screen. His head is full of ideas, he’s ready to go, just needs a chance to sit at his laptop and the words will flow. At least that’s what he thinks.

The opportunity arrives, he plugs it in, powers it up and opens his writing software. A new writing document, that’s what he needs. He picks his font, his spacing and then....nothing.

His mind has gone blank.

Where have all those ideas gone? They can’t have just vanished, he just needs to get started and they’ll all come rushing back...or one or two will, anyway.

A title, that’s always a good place to start. But how can he come up with a suitable name until he knows what he is going to write? Okay, he’ll leave it, return later with something apt.

The blank document page stares at him, taunting him to go ahead and make his mark, to get something written, break up that white expanse. If only he could remember just one, but not a single idea pops up.

Then he starts to type, slowly. ‘Gary is starting to become very familiar with this.....’
