Frost Like Snow

Landscape whitened,

not by snow,

but frost so hard,

so deep.

Coldly freezing,

set in solid,

the melt, in tears,

will weep.

The sun will take

it’s time to work,

to bring on

any thaw;

the ground with ice

is riddled now,

almost to

the core.

The blades of grass

are bending down

the water weighs

so much;

it’s waiting for

the sun to shine

and heat it

with it’s touch.

Ground so white,

crisp under foot,

it crackles

as you go;

but the white is

nothing more than frost

there is no trace

of snow.
