The water was warm under the hot sun. It made the impact a little less harsh, like a warm hug after a harsh shove. But the comforting feeling only lasts for the first few throws, though. You can only be chucked at a pond so many times before it becomes unbearably repetitive. Get picked up. Get thrown in. Get picked up. Get thrown in. Get picked up. Get thrown in.

I’m hurt by how disposable I am to you all. You toss me around without a care and step on me me with your heavy boots and crush me with your tires and throw me through windows and pick at me with pointy tools and- but what does it matter. After all, I’m just a rock. I’m not supposed to have feelings.

Ah, but every once in a while along comes a kind hand; one with a calloused palm, but curious fingers. And it smooths me over, turns me around, examines every little crack and crevice I have. Some of the lucky ones get taken to a far away place with velvety padding and clear glass walls to bask underneath a warm light in a cozy little room.
