You said that it was me you loved, that you were well and truly over her. She was your past and I was your present. I believed you, heart and soul, right up until a couple of weeks ago.

I can clearly remember when you got that call, how odd you sounded, how quickly you stood and walked away. How you were gone for so long that your dinner was ruined and that it didn’t seem to bother you at all.

Then there were the texts. Any time, any day. You used to ask me to answer your phone if you were busy with something but now it was always right in front of you.

Maybe it shouldn’t have surprized me when they started arriving, anonymous messages that told me you no longer cared. Should I have confided in you? Maybe. But then the photo arrived. Your ex-wife!

She was back in the present, not in the past. Those conversations, the texts and now the late night at work. You wouldn’t tell me, would you? You didn’t have the guts.

Well, she can have you, she can gloat. I’m not going to fight when it’s clear who you truly love.
