Some bury their dead in one manner, others in other ways. But it is said, by some, that a good stuff drink can lighten the saddened load.

Words for the living

Were solemnly said,

As each coffin passed

Housing it's dead,

"It is hard to be born

But easy to die.

So drink-up me hardies,

Here's mud in your eye."

The raising of flagons

And the toasting towards wagons

Then on to the graveyard

Counting tears, they do cry.

"It is hard to be born

But easy to die.

"A coin for the potter,"

We all said, with a sigh."

And as the caskets were lowered

With hardly a sound

The men in the back

Passed the bottle around.

Their whispers were faint

With respectful overtones

Reciting these words

Over graves and bones.

"It is hard to be born,

But easy to die,

Their time was so fleeting.

Here's mud in your eye."
