The Month Of March

Just last year March was a fantastic month, one of the best of the year. I could spend time outside in a t shirt, getting on with some of the jobs that had accumulated over the winter. When the work was done it was plenty warm enough to sit on the swing seat and relax for a while.

And right now it is Spring again. The daffodils have not only sprung out from the ground but are in full bloom. The grass is getting that more vibrant green color and some of the trees already have leaf buds forming on the ends of their branches. Everything seems to be well on the mend from the ravages of Winter.

The only problem is that we are now going backwards. Temperatures are expected to get barely above freezing, and with the wind chill factored in are more likely to feel like zero or below. Over in the west the forecasters say we’ll escape the worst of it until Thursday.

And then ‘The Beast from the East’, straight from Siberia, is likely to meet up with the beginnings of Storm Emma, coming up from Portugal. There is talk of a ‘Status Red’ weather event where snow and blizzards are likely to be the worst for thirty years. People are being urged to stock up on essentials as serious travel chaos is being predicted country-wide.

What is the saying about March? ‘It comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.’ Well, we’ll see. Me, I’m just hoping that the weather satellites and the crystal balls are wrong, because there is one thing I am certain of; I DON’T WANT SNOW!
