Jillie Daydream

I thought I would make my first submission on this part of the site something silly. A lot of my writing is old, and I don't profess it to be good. But it has never seen the light of day and as I
move from the old and inexperienced into new realms I feel part of my confidence building as I begin this adventure is being able to let some of these oldies see light.

During work meetings, or emotionally draining days in my prior career myself and a couple of colleagues with similar leanings would exchange quickly scribbled poems or ditties to lighten the mood.
This is one of those, passed to a friend during an especially tedious meeting when I spotted her daydreaming, perhaps about the rather nice looking chap who was fixing her car that day, who it
turned out owned horses.

The whole team are sat there, looking sombre and grim

Listening to Carole's words.

They're looking alert, but mostly they're dim

And most of her words aren't heard.

The boredom sets in, and miles away is Jillie,

Dreaming of a man on a horse.

No it's not David Broome, that would be silly,

It's Nigel the mechanic of course.

The day seems much sweeter, full of rainbows and sun,

And Jillie is smiling like a cat.

She imagines the naughiest kinds of fun

You can have on a leopard fur mat!

Well Jillie it's time for the dreaming to end

'Cos the clients are screaming for visits.

I know that it's hard to stop it my friend

But your drifting must stop in a minute.

So, listen to Carole, and take in the news.

And try very hard not to frown.

Look out of the window and breathe in the views,

But don't let the Bastards get you down!

Hi Damp Kitten, they do indeed! Those meetings used to be Hell. Budgets, performance reviews, clients targets, care reforms. Yuk! Lol. Jillie and I were 20 years apart in age but had such a great friendship and were always fooling around and sharing our life dreams. I miss those days.

Thanks for reading and commenting. X
