Hello!

I am Frank N. Field, an aspiring Christian writer. I have decided to host a competition for my 1,000 read benchmark. While I do judge strictly, I judge fairly. (NOTE: This competition won’t be in place until I reach 1,000 reads. This may be an advantage for the early birds to use to start gathering ideas and getting them ready on Booksie)

I noticed that there was a comment on here that asked me to put what I like. Generally, I am a big fan of dystopian or science fiction. However, I’m looking for well written stories. As I said before, I’m not going to be a biased judge. Write well, and you’ll find favor in this competition.

Here is the info on the competition:

1) Everyone is going to be graded on the same scale of 5 different categories. I believe that all of the categories are important so the categories are each worth 10 points. The categories I will judge on are grammar, storyline, detail, character development, and dialogue.

2) Everyone is allowed to join, but not everyone is going to win a prize. I just want to make that clear because a common idea today is that everyone gets a prize or a trophy for participation.

3) While I’d like the short stories to have a max of 8,000 words, the essay to be about 1,000 words, and the books to be a max of about 30,000 words, I want it to be a good story, and I am willing to give whatever length is needed to finish the story. However, while this is how I’m going to judge, do not fill your story with things that don’t need to be in there. If you do, you will lose points in the storyline section.

4) The judging will be done in 4 rounds. The first round is open to everyone, and you submit your story in a link down below. The top 50% of the people from round 1 will go to round 2, where they will each write a debating essay from the topic of my choosing. The top 50% of people from round 2 will go to round 3, where you will write a story with a genre of my choosing (more on that when we get there). The top 3 from round 3 will go on to the final round, where they will have 5 weeks to write and post a book onto Booksie in its entirety. The winner will be selected by Booksie members from that group in a vote, and the two runner ups will recieve a lesser prize.

5) I want the stories, if they were turned into films, to be PG or PG-13. These ratings seem to be a good fit because this competition is supposed to be friendly to all who can write. I feel like G wouldn’t be able to meet what the genres of my choosing would be while R would be too over the top.

6) If you’re still reading this, you may be wondering what the prize is. For the winner, I will review 10 stories (books, poems, short stories, etc.) of your choosing in their entirety. The 2nd place winner will get 3 books in its entirety to be reviewed or 9 short stories to be reviewed. The 3rd place winner will get 6 short stories to be reviewed or 2 books in their entireties.

Good luck to all of you! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s entries!
