Smiling

Answering a question with another,

Is to me,

Like trying to keep my head down under.

The longer I hold out,

The less I think I can and I doubt.

“Where there’s a will there’s a way.”

So why is it that my will never seems to stay?

Calling all my resolve to make up my mind,

Then complaining that my fate’s been resigned.

So I can’t speak for what I said,

Or give reason why I fled?

I’m only human,

That much I know

And even though it makes me feel stupid,

I’ll always stand by the fact it makes me grow.

Growing pains,

It’s what they are.

The link of life’s chains,

Fighting only gives me scars.

So I don’t fight it,

And I go with the flow.

I’ll be the first to admit,

It sometimes gets me low.

But that’s what it's all about,

Having the ability to feel.

The world’s in an emotional drought,

And there’s been no time to heal.

This bit has a moral,

And one big takeaway:

It’s that when we lay down the quarrel,

Our conflict enters the land of yesterday.

And we go on, smiling.
