I know there have been times in the past

of discord and disagreement, but this will last,

or so it seems, and grow and grow,

until it's a leaning tower I know

will crash to the ground, at least that's my fear.

A stranger stares back at us from the mirror

Say farewell to intelligent and reasoned thought,

say hello to an emotion-based nightmare in which we're caught

We're adrift on a turbulent and uncertain sea,

we think we know the way, but it's not to be

Some are missing a piece of compassion's soul,

never will we dig our way out of this hole

Before you can heal the wounds, we have to agree on what's true,

and that's what's changed, and bodes ill for me and you
