A park ranger walks into a solitary cabin in the mountains.  He looks around, but nothing seems out of place; that is until he walks into the bedroom.  On the night stand is a green book. It’s stained at the edges and quite worn. And it belongs to Randy Collins, the missing woman.

The ranger flips the pages to get to the last entries to find out what happened to Randy:

Dear Diary,

Great grandpa Patrick and great grandma Amy’s cabin is nice, but the wood’s starting to rot and the place smells damp.  The strange thing is I thought there’d be more critters up here, but I haven’t seen anything, not even a bird.  Tomorrow, I’m going to clean up the place and do some minor repairs.

Randy.

Dear Diary,

I accidentally broke a mirror today, then I heard a bird screech, but when I went outside there was nothing.  Couldn’t even hear the flapping of wings.  The place is also starting to smell worse and I swear the stains on the walls are starting to grow.  Tomorrow, I’m going to look around and see if there’s anything to eat. Game, berries, mushrooms, they’d all be nice.

Randy.

Dear Diary,

I know I’m not getting much sunlight here, but the speed that my tan is disappearing is ridiculous.  I’m going to look like Morticia Addams by the time I leave this place.  My food supplies are starting to go bad too.  I thought the jerky would last a couple of days, but I found maggots in it this morning.  Luckily I managed to kill some game.  That’ll be my third this month.

Randy.

Dear Diary,

I’m leaving tomorrow.  This place is crazy.  My hair’s starting to fall out and my teeth are turning yellow.  And I swear I saw someone walking around the cabin this morning.  The food’s also gone bad.  ALL OF IT. Even the canned food.  And the smell is suffocating.  I just can’t take it anymore.

Randy.

Dear Diary,

Hi! I’m Amy.

…………………………….

That was the last entry.  Nothing saying where she was headed.  Then the ranger heard a thud outside.  He took his gun out and ran outside.  As he stepped out of the cabin, the cabin door slammed shut with a bang.  A screech of a bird could also be heard, but there were no other sounds to go with it.
