Some Sort Of Plague

People just avoiding,

or maybe they are leaving,

there’s a simple message

that I am receiving.

It seems I’ve become infected

with some spreadable disease;

a thing that very clearly

is strong enough to seize

many different types of mind,

a panic to induce,

my claims that I’m infection-free

don’t seem to be much use.

Increasing isolation,

depression on the rise,

so few ears are left to hear

my despondent cries.

In the grip of segregation,

I really wish I could

find someone to confide in

and for once be understood.

Confidence has vanished,

eaten by despair,

for when I look around myself

there is no one there.
