Hypothermic Notion

They say it’s a pretty painless way to go,

to lay yourself down, in to the deep snow.

The pain comes before, sets you to shake,

making you shiver and making you ache.

But as you get colder, sleep takes the lead,

you know to lay down is just what you need.

That deep drift of snow that you are now sighting,

a comfortable bed that is oh, so inviting.

Your senses are failing, you find yourself numb;

a relief from the pain since you’ve come undone.

You lay yourself down and just take in the view,

skin now discolored by a blue hue.

You breathing gets labored, you heart beat is slow,

it will not take long for your life to go.

Closing your eyes, they’re too frozen to cry;

you ask one last question, quite simply, “Why?”

Consciousness drifts along with the snow;

how could they have ever just let you go?

They’ll find your body, well just let them mourn,

for they were the ones that made you so forlorn.
