A Whiff Of A Scent
Us dogs, there’s not much we like more than to curl up in the sunshine. The heat soaks through our fur, our skin, warming our joints. It’s a feeling we relish.
There’s no unexplained noises. The birds are twittering away in the trees, the daisies are poking up through the grass. In the distance there’s the sound of a lawn-mower; too far away to bother about though.
Footsteps pass by on the side-walk and cars travel up and down the street; none are stopping or slowing to approach so I’ll just let myself relax and doze. The dreams start to work their magic, and I’m off, running in the fields....
A breeze seems to have picked up. While I’ve been sleeping the sun has gone behind a cloud, taking that warmth away with it.
But there’s something else....something interesting enough to bring me to my feet even though I’m still half asleep. There’s a smell on the wind, one that I’m sure that I recognise.
I turn my head, nose turned towards the wind for the ultimate aroma onslaught, and even though my eyes aren’t yet fully open, I’m on the move, tail wagging and saliva filling my mouth for......sausages!

Oops! Sorry about that, Hully! I thought I'd clicked on JEF's piece. Well, it's been a while since I've felt like an idiot, so this is a good refresher. lol
Again, great work! And sorry for the mix up. :)
Wonderful, Hully! You've captured him perfectly, well done!

A fun piece, JEF! The simplicity of a dog's life is at times an envious thing.

Ummm. Thanks, Jeff, but it's Hully! I had to come up with something for this picture.
