The smell of antiseptic

And the rush of nurses,

“Will Ava be all right?”

Blood and bones. All so graphic,

I’ve been here for hours.

“Will Ava be all right?”

The world falls silent, static.

Hand on shoulder, “I’m sorry.”

“Ava will not be all right.”
