Captive

Once I roamed round, so proud and so free,

until you came along and you captured me.

You pumped me with drugs and kept me sedated

until I gave up on all of the hatred.

You fed me a diet that you thought was best,

sometimes you would torment, sometimes you would jest;

but only once you’d put me behind your bars,

to keep me from clawing and giving you scars.

I raged and I roared, tried to escape from this cage,

this indignity put me in a real rage.

But then I gave up, you’d broken my will,

and now it is with dreams that my head does fill.

The king of the jungle, you’ve torn up my throne,

for I can see in your eyes that you’ll not let me home.
