They’re Gonna Burn Me As A Witch
They come to me with wishes, whisper their desires;
the secrecy is absolute, it never does expire.
I hold their secrets safely, I never write them down
but there comes a day when one comes back with a frown.
The accusations start to flow, but with them I can cope;
but he leaves me standing there, off to get more rope.
Looking for an accomplice, someone to back their claim,
he’s out now simply for my blood, slurring up my name.
There is talk of witchcraft; that I had cast on him a spell,
that he was not responsible for I’d made him unwell.
Others, fearful of my knowledge, come forward with their lies,
talking of my falsity, my wearing of disguise.
I’d kept my part of the bargain, my lips had remained sealed
but that counted for nothing, when suspicions were revealed.
Fine upstanding gentlemen would never be so base,
which led them right towards my door when a culprit they did chase.
"It was her that did enchant me, it was her that stole my purse
and when I did accuse her, she placed on me a curse.
You know that I speak only true, she’s one black magic bitch.”
And now they build their bonfire – they’re gonna burn me as a witch.

It's society's nature to find someone to blame, I guess, which is why the time's we're living in are so troubling, 'cause that's what our President's doing--excellent, Hull!

Sun, April 1st, 2018 8:10pmBrilliant, Hully! Well and truly set up... and what a terrible death it must have been for all the witches who were burned. Exceptionally well written,
Sun, April 1st, 2018 10:00pmA "person", burned, making it "acceptable" by labeling them a "witch"..so sad.
I love a great poem that tells an intriguing story !
Such an intense poem, Hully. Excellent!

Mon, April 2nd, 2018 2:48pmThe thanklessness of ungrateful pricks. You capture it so completely, Hully! People are happy to take advantage of someone's gifts until they run the risk of being caught, then suddenly they have morals and dignity, and would never partake in anything that anyone might accuse them of. It's kind of like politicians or wealthy czars - they'll do what they want because they think there's no consequences for them, but once the consequences start marching for their door, suddenly they're completely different people with a kinder heart and a humanitarian outlook on life.
A great poem, Hully. It's also helping to inspire me - I've had a pic of a witch sitting on my computer since the fall that I haven't been able to come up with anything for and this piece is helping stir up an idea. Thanks for that, my dear! :)
It always amazes how one crazed individual can pick up like minds. Mama Hullabaloo. Like those lynchings in western movies. Usianguke
