The Empty Chair

I try hard to not realize,

to look away, avert my eyes;

for there beside me is a space

where there should just be your face.

Lonely now, I miss you much,

not to mention gentle touch,

there’s nothing there, a vacant gap,

that all my strength does surely sap.

I will not look, I’ll turn away,

wait for you another day,

but should you see the tears I cry,

that empty seat will tell you why.

Nicely penned, Hully. Full of raw emotion and so evocative... oh, that empty chair!

Thank you, Sue. It's still sitting there, showing it's emptiness.

It's difficult, coping with loss. No matter how long it's been, depending on the day or our mood, remembering someone no longer with us can set us off. Each person (and pet) has their place in our hearts.
A wonderful write, Hully. You nailed the feeling home.
