A woman with some hard decisions, taking in the sun...

“Hiding in the Sun”

She stood in

the light of

the new day’s

sun

feeling it’s

warmth

through the

thin cotton

of the long

tee-shirt

she was

wearing

that went

down

to a foot

above

her knees,

she was gathering

her strength

from a strong

cup of black

coffee

and what ever

energy

she could siphon

off the sun

trying to replenish

what she lost

fighting the

truth

last night

working so hard

at not accepting

in her mind

what she knew

was going to

prove out

to be true,

she stretches

her back

holding

what’s left

of the coffee

in her cup

high above her

head

pulling up that

thin cotton

veil

showing the

sun

the full length

of her legs

the smoothness

of

her skin

gives no

resistance

to the fabric

as it slides

over her

body,

oh

if she could

just curl up

and lie in

the sun

soaking up the

day

not having to

think about

or face

the decisions

lining up before

her,

she lowers her

coffee cup

feeling recharged

in spirit

sending her

tee-shirt

back to riding

along her

upper thighs

she exits her

little stage in

the sun

dumping out

the last third

of her cup

of coffee

in favor of

a freshly

brewed

pot

and a chair

at her kitchen

window

she reaches out

picking up her

phone

off the kitchen

table

it’s not feeling

quite as heavy

as it did

when she

sat it there

last night

she positions

the screen

in front of

her

holds her cup

of coffee

with both

hands

as she blows

across the

surface

of the coffee

while looking

down

into the small

window

of her life

her tongue

carefully

treads into

the hot liquid

checking the

temp

before letting

it

reach her lips,

she scrolls

through

all those texts

from the night

before

navigating

through

the clusters of

angry thoughts

and cleaver

words

trying to only

weigh

their heartfelt

meanings

against the

feelings

of her own,

she notices

the sun

has caught

the kitchen

table

and she watches

as it slowly

creeps along

while she struggles

with what she

wants to say,

her coffee

gone

and half of

the kitchen

table

now bathed

in sunlight

she finally

just writes

“I Loved you,

more than

life

it’s self

but last

night

my life

with you

ended”

before

turning off

her phone

grabbing a

pillow

off the couch

and curling up

on the floor

in a 6 by 6

foot square

of morning

light

with her knees

tucked into

her

long cotton

tee-shirt

with nothing

else left

to comfort

her

but the

sun…

Well, she IS the woman. Just like a lady. Always breaking up with her man. Why did she do it though?
