Beach Journey
He stole through a door
To confront the sea,
After a burning blackout of taxi rides
And conversations.
Images cracked and crashed,
Vanishing in vacant liquids.
He walked down onto the blazing beach,
His skin blistered by the furnace.
Lizards began to crawl out of the waves,
Thornlike protrudances split
And gathered around their heads,
Pointing like steel fingers towards the sun,
Their bodies were caught in the undertow
As blood and foam dribbled from their eye sockets.
On the edge of the sea he could see a ferry,
Tattoed and burning,
Its sails attached to the membranes of the sky.
The clouds laughed as his fingernails
Tore open fruit,
And threw seeds into the sun.
