Pink!

I’m hurt. I can’t help it. Not one of my so-called friends remembered. No cards through the door, no ‘Happy Birthday’ texts......nothing.

I’m tempted to spend the day in bed, sulking and feeling sorry for myself. Nobody cares, after all. But then there is a flicker, a spark of defiance, and a word that gives me an idea.

The word is ‘Pink’!

They might have forgotten, but I have not and I’m going to have myself a real ‘pink’ party. Happier now, I make my way in to town, my mind full of a picture of what I want to buy. And, for once, the shops seem to have just what I want in stock. Pink balloons, pink cakes, pink cups and saucers! And I’m celebrating, so let’s not forget the bottle of pink bubbly.

I know just who I am going to invite, too. Someone who has stood beside me for many years. Someone who knows my hopes and dreams, who has shared my secrets and my heartbreaks. Someone who has always let me cry it out without complaining.

We’ll get dressed up, the two of us and we’ll have one great party – just me and my teddy bear!
