The Whistle Man

The whistle man was a fisherman in the 1820's who always wore a straw hat and overalls with one strap hanging loose. He lived in a cozy fishing town on the shoreline called Skyhook Vale. One night he was out fishing on a 3 day voyage and got so caught up in his netting and catching that he lost track of time. He was running out of food and water and needed to get back home for supplies. There were no fish left to be caught anyhow he thought. So, he decided to head back.

Unfortunately the sea was calm and without wind to drive the sails. He was a superstitious man who believed one could whistle and call forth the wind to blow. So he whistled and whistled day and night for a week but to no avail. He knew his time had run out.

The town of Skyhook Vale sent out a search party a few days later and eventually found his boat aimlessly floating in the sea. Whistle man was there. Sitting lifeless in his overalls and straw hat with his mouth still puckered as if he was whistling out his dying breath.

The people of Skyhook Vale now tell stories of th whistle man to their children and warn not to go to shore alone at night. Because after all.....The Whistle Man is Hungry....So if your by yourself walking down a sandy beach at night the whistling you hear might not be the wind....It might, just might, be the Whistle Man coming for a meal....
