Is there ever an end

To the continuous images

of schoolchildren

bathed in red?

Is there ever an end

To the insane onslaught

of countless children

flaunting their guns?

Is there ever an end

To the primitive debate

Of “older and wiser” adults

Over who should be blamed?

(Guns kill people!)

(People kill people!)

(Either way,

People,

children,

are killed)

Is there ever an end

To the endless BANG

Of a sleek death machine

Aimed at innocents?

Is there ever an end

To the constant weeping

Of mourning parents

Who have received fatal news

about their beloved children

their children who have been tragically

Killed

in a school shooting.

their children who calmly drove to school that morning

expecting nothing out of the ordinary

except that stupid chemistry test that nobody understood.

expecting only that chemistry test

that nobody ever got to take

Because the end arrived too soon.
