Mending The Crack

One single ill-conceived remark,

has damaged love and trust;

I’ve got to get to fixing it,

I really simply must.

For now it’s just a tiny crack,

but to prevent a real disaster,

I must get down upon my knees

and fix it up with plaster.

A band-aid holds it all in place

while I plaster in the gap,

I want to make it perfect,

vanish all traces of mishap.

I’ll smooth out all the edges

and I’ll make it look like new,

and then for extra certainty

I’ll secure it with some glue.

I need to watch the words I say,

how I communicate,

for I never want to turn your love

to plain and simple hate.

Apologies I’ve made to you,

I hope you know they’re true

for my guilt is never-ending

but so is my love for you.
