Years ago in middle school, I boarded my horse (who is no longer mine) at a barn belonging to one of my trainer's other students. I was friends with this student for some time…until in one moment
of immaturity and misunderstanding, I ruined it all. This poem takes place several weeks after the fact.

It’s finally time to give up the fight
I ponder this over day and night.
Hanging by a rope from the Queen’s safe haven
The rope of my own will
And yet, the ground is so close.
But I don’t know the knot,
Can’t untie it. Only the Queen can
Or she can pull me up.

Below me is a yellow sun
Hovering over a yellow plain
Where my horse grazes happily.
My giant friend makes her happy.
My giant friend makes me look small
Clogs my vocal cords
Jams my phone line
But to her I owe everything positive.

The road is colorful now. I can’t see the lines.
The light stays yellow, never turns green.
Never turns red. Only the Queen can change
The light. And she will. I’m coming to her,
And she might change the light to red.
