Honey

There’s something there

Behind her eyes

Hidden by the snow-white beads

The yellow of her dress

Like starched corn

Or a summer memory

But she’s sad

The lips almost too red

A blood stain on porcelain

Maybe she’s scared

A shadow in the brown of her eyes

Tainted honey

The flies got in and it fouled

But the coal hair repents

And protects her.

A flower on her shoulder,

The rose drips crimson down her face

To her chest

And the invisible floor.
