The Matador

He stands in the arena,

so tall,

and so proud;

he soaks up all the applause

so clear

and so loud.

He’s waiting to be baiting,

to thrust

and then to pull;

he’s holding out for anger,

he’s enraging

that poor bull.

He has the taste of victory;

with might

his mind does flood.

This matador wants nothing more

than causing pain

and blood.

With a blink the scene just freezes,

his body

will not move;

this will be one killing

that will not

be going smooth.

The bull has got his freedom,

not a scratch

and not a tear;

the matador stuck forever

for he is

frozen there.

He’ll remain there as a symbol,

a display that’s

really just;

a representative of brutality

of man’s insatiable

blood lust.

Nature has intruded,

unexpected

in it’s way;

the crowd, they're disappointed

but the bull

has had it’s day!
