It’s hard to escape yourself

Except in fantasy

Where you put your mind upon a shelf

To dream of cures for the disease.

Your shadow that sticks to you

Goes and hides in the shade

And its never given you a clue

From its return to its fade.

What road separates the two

Fantasy and reality

As you go where the shadows do

And the slaves are set free.

You’ll return to reality

For you’ve a job to do

To get that paycheck in the bank

Before returning to the zoo.

That circus in your fantasy

With all its twist and turns

Finds you in different galaxies

As you watch while your world burns.

It’s hard to escape yourself

Except in fantasy

Where you put your mind upon a shelf

To dream of cures for the disease.

How does your shadow find you

After its lengthy time away

For you’ve never given it a clue

From your cradle to your grave.

That road that separates the two

Dark and light

As you go where the shadows do

And sleep to be set free.

But you’ll return to reality

For you’ve a job to do

To get that paycheck in the bank

Before returning to the zoo.
